Back to Buttondown
Internet sigh: I'm switching back to my previous email newsletter app. Sorry!
I teased in the last email I had sent on Patreon that I made the decision to switch my weekly(ish) newsletter sending app back to Buttondown.
Quick version:
For anyone viewing this that isn’t already subscribed, you can sign up here - https://buttondown.com/lemoncasting- if you want to get my newsletter most Tuesdays.
You can see in the archives, which I moved over from Patreon, that I last sent out an email in July. Ooof.
The Why's?
- Selfishly, collecting links and writing in Patreon's app isn't any fun. To me. Other people like it. I prefer Buttondown's interface.
- A good friend let me know that in order to reply to an email I send on Patreon, they have to log in and use an app to leave a comment vs Buttondown you can just hit reply and start typing. I hate that kind of friction for communicating.
- Linking to "my newsletter on Patreon" implied that it cost money to read. It doesn't. But Patreon is a "support me on Patreon" style app in a lot of people's minds. I didn't like that implication for my newsletter.
- Patreon is in the midst of trying to "automate your marketing and promotion" and I honestly don't trust it or me to not send out more "50% off your free newsletter!" emails on my behalf that I didn't ask it to send.
- I'm not shutting down my Patreon account. It's still a way for people to support me monthly online if they want to. Some day I'll figure out a better way to integrate with a Discord, etc. in a healthy way.
- I did have one person ask how they can do a one-time support send, and for that I set up a Stripe link people can use. But I must stress again: it's not necessary to do to get the newsletter!
Ok for the last time 🙏🤦♂️, I'll see you over on Life as a Lemon.
If you decide to get off this ride, thank you for following along to this point.
