I Turned 50 Today. So Naturally I'm Recording a Podcast Episode a Day For My 50th Year on This Planet
When I coming to the end of my Selfie a Day project (debrief post here) I was honestly surprised by people asking me what I was going to do next once it was finished. I hadn't put a lot of thought into starting the selfie a day project, and so I wasn't really planning to do another one.
But as more people asked me about what's next, I started to realize I did like the challenge of having some sort of creative outlet to do each day. And I was disappointed that I didn't push myself to be a little more creative with the selfie a day project.
And so, as I mentioned in the wrap up post, I considered the suggestions of others as well as what I thought I could do that would be more of a challenge while still remaining a fun thing to aspire to each day. The whole time I could hear a voice in the back of my brain shouting "you want to do a podcast!", but I kept ignoring it because that felt too obvious. Plus my Transistor.fm account is full of stalled out podcasts with 5 or 10 episodes that I never found my groove in to doing more of.
While I was cleaning up said podcasts, I saw the Daily(ish) podcast that I started 12 years ago back in February, 2014. Episode 1 is titled "Verbal Diarrhea". Lovely.
I listened to it.
Painful.
In the introduction to the episode, I say:
This is a show that I've been sort of thinking about doing for a while, and it's more of a not so much for you guys, whoever happens to listen, but more to just push myself in this medium of podcasting that I enjoy doing, to try and just like I'm doing right now, come up with a conversation and a topic and talk off more or less off the top of my head.
The "more to just push myself in this medium of podcasting that I enjoy doing" jumped out at me because that was almost the exact thing I was telling myself about why I should do a podcast episode a day for my new project. So 12 years later, I'm still trying to figure it out. 😆
Podcasting Metadata P0rn
The last episode I published was in March 30th, 2020 called "This is My First Pandemic". That's kind of wild.
So in the spirit of not wanting to add more digital stuff to manage, and clean up and reuse old stuff, I thought why not just use the Daily(ish) show as the vehicle for this project rather than starting a whole new podcast.
So that's why this series starts at episode 262, even though it's a "new" thing to most of you I'm sure. For the podcast metadata nerds, I labelled everything before episode 262 as season 1 of the show, and this project will be season 2.

My apologies if you were still subscribed to the old Daily(ish) feed and suddenly got all 261 old episodes dumped back in your podcast player. It was my mistake. 🤦♂️
Where to Subscribe to Daily(ish)
- You can visit it's home on the web at daily.chrisenns.com
- Subscribe links are helpfully generated by Transistor at daily.chrisenns.com/subscribe including Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and even good old fashioned RSS.
- I'm trying to get a RSS to email newsletter thing hooked up. TBD.
My Rules for a Daily Podcast
I talk about some of the rules I'm giving myself for the podcast in the first episode, but basically:
- I can record ahead and schedule episodes to come out.
- I'm going to try to record episodes through all the ups and downs of a year of life, but allow myself to take a break if things are sideways for a while.
- No back to back "well it's been a while since I recorded episodes".
- Minimum of 1 minute in length, no more than 10 minutes. Although exceptions will be made if I ever have a guest on?
- I really value listener feedback. So please email me at chris.enns@gmail.com (mention the episode you're referring to is helpful) with a voice note or comments, or reply to new episode posts on Bluesky and your comment will be added to the episode page.

As I say in the podcast at the end of each episode: Thanks for listening / reading. Have a great day. Bye for now.
