The best Twitter app for iPhone/iPod touch for my money is (was?) Tweetie 2.  Twitter bought it and now has rebranded it simply Twitter.  I'm not a fan of the new icon for it:

But you can't beat the fact that it's now free instead of $2.99.  Give it a try.
