Breaking Down and Rebuilding The Edge's Work on U2's The Wire

A rabbit trail that started with reworking a client's podcast intro led me to listening to Daddy's Going to Pay For Your Crashed Car, which had me wondering where they pulled the intro sounds from (studio recording intro is "The Cliff", the live version has an extra song added called "Dubinushka"), which led to watching the live version in Adelaide in 1993, to discovering this video from JHS Pedals where the host, Nick, tries to emulate U2's The Edge on the song Wire from 1984's The Unforgettable Fire.
I love internet rabbit trails. But so terrible for productivity. Especially when you try and reverse your path to write a blog post about it.
These kinds of videos for guitar players remind me of how the software developers I often edit in podcasts talk about trying to break down and rebuild websites or apps, finding clues in code about how someone else built something and then using modern (or different) tech to build it yourself.
As difficult as the delay / echo notes are to play, I'm reminded of how kick-ass Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums) are in making this song happen.
