Adding Video Streaming to Your Podcast with HLS

My friends over at Transistor.fm are testing out a new feature where eventually you'd be able to upload a video version of a podcast alongside an audio version and listeners using a podcast app could switch back and forth between video or audio.
You may be thinking "this isn't a big deal. I already do something like this with YouTube or Spotify" which is kind of true. But what the folks behind the Podcast Standards Project are hoping to implement is a way for podcasters to do video or audio without having to rely on a gatekeeper like YouTube or Spotify, and instead let independent creators choose where to host their video + audio.
Here's Justin Jackson, co-founder of Transistor.fm, giving a demo of how it works. In the demo, he uses Cloudflare to host the video. But eventually you could use any hosting method or company that supports HLS streaming.
I think it's really cool and I'm grateful for folks like Justin and others at the Podcast Standards Project for trying to keep independent podcasting alive and well, alongside the big companies like Apple, Spotify, and YouTube.
