Apple Gives Away Bono Documentary (Apple Vision Pro Not Included)

From U2.com:

Bono: Stories of Surrender is a vivid reimagining of Bono’s critically-acclaimed one-man stage show, ‘Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music and Some Mischief…’, as he pulls back the curtain on a remarkable life and the family, friends, and faith that have challenged and sustained him, revealing personal stories about his journey as a son, father, husband, activist and rockstar. Along with never-before-seen, exclusive footage from the Beacon Theatre shows, the film features Bono performing many of the iconic U2 songs that have shaped his life and legacy, along with musicians Jacknife Lee, Kate Ellis and Gemma Doherty.

If the internet is still the internet, there will be plenty of "U2 gave me that album that one time for free and I'm still mad about it" jokes, but as a U2 fan, I'm pumped that the Apple and U2 relationship wasn't so soured by that incident—for which Bono apologized at the time, and devoted part of this book to as well—that AppleTV+ is able to be the home of the documentary of Bono from his "Stories of Surrender" book tour.

The film is not only destined for AppleTV+, it's also going to be the first film available in Apple Immersive on Apple Vision Pro:

...a remarkable media format recorded in 8K with Spatial Audio to produce a 180-degree video that places viewers onstage with Bono and in the center of his story. With this special edition of the film available only on Vision Pro, viewers will feel immersed in the music and storytelling of Surrender.

In an alternate timeline, we're still running the @U2 podcast and Apple would've sent me Apple Vision Pro hardware to review this for the podcast. Sadly we're not in that timeline, and sadly I don't have $5,000CAD (plus tax and tariffs?) to buy an Apple Vision Pro to review Bono's film.

Sadly, I'll be watching it on my regular TV like the rest of you.

A funny little web dev note: U2's website still doesn't properly link to AppleTV+ in it's text:

Screenshot of the code from U2's website which shows the <a href code as being href="https://Prob should link to : https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2025/02/apple-original-films-announces-groundbreaking-new-documentary-event-bono-stories-of-surrender-premiering-globally-on-may-30-on-apple-tv/"

"Prob should link to" is web dev speak for "I'm still waiting for marketing to get back to me but they've probably forgotten and it's time to go to bed here in Ireland. San Francisco can deal with it in the morning."
